Something very special happened to Jax over the weekend. His Poppa (my dad) took him on his first road trip....just the two of them!
This time last year I was VERY pregnant with Maddox and Jason was going on a bear hunt in Capitan, NM. Being only 3 weeks away from giving birth I didn't feel comfortable with him being so far away. So, me, Jax, Mom and Dad all loaded up and went to Ruidoso for some R&R and to be closer to Jason. However, while we were away, something very unexpected happened. One morning Dad took Jax up to the Elk Lodge on the Indian Reservations. The yearly elk hunt was going on at the time so they got to see lots of hunters bringing in their elk that they had taken. This hunt is very cool to watch because it's not just your average man/women that hunt these reservations. The elk tag cost around $13,500. So these people are paying BIG bucks to hunt these animals and they travel from all over the country to hunt on this reservation. So to me, that makes it a little more unique.....I mean, if I payed $13,500 I BETTER be bringing home a monster elk...right?!
Anyways, sorry, got a little off track....none of us ever dreamed that a 2 yr old (at the time) would be so amazed and intrigued by watching these elk come in from the mountain, and get skinned. That's all he's talked about for an entire year. When you ask him what he wants to be when he grows up he says, "an elk hunter!" For about the last month or so he could sense that elk season was getting near and that's all he has been wanting to do. Everyday I would hear, "I'm ready for Ruidoso so I can watch the elk".....well, we tried to get a trip planned so that all of us could go and it just wasn't going to work with everyone's schedules. So dad, being the amazing man that he is, decided that he would take Jax all by himself so that he wouldn't miss out on seeing his favorite thing in the world. It's so neat to watch these memories being made with them two because I have so many memories with my Pop that will never be forgotten. I spent many of days with him growing up and I hold those days very near to my heart.
The trip was a success, dad survived traveling with a 3 yr. old and Jax did a great job! (or that's what poppa said;) They didn't get to see any elk actually being skinned but did see some nice racks....AND got to see a bear being skinned! Jax was super stoked about that!
THANK YOU DAD for being so amazing, loving, and for being willing to take Jax to do something he absolutely loves. That means so much to me and I know it meant a lot to Jax as well!
WE LOVE YOU!
